16.

From the ends of   the earth, people gather

To worship the infinite God.

From the furthest   horizon, they travel

To worship the merciful God.

Across the oceans   they venture

To worship the generous God.

With hearts of   gladness they join us

To worship the liberating God.

From the ends of   the earth

And the earliest ages

To this place and   this moment,

We are called as God’s people

To live in God’s   presence.

Lift our hearts and rejoice!

From Psalm 65.

17.

O God of life, you call us to be present,

here, now.

Acknowledging the   past, for you have used it to form us,

Honouring the   future, which is held in your sight.

Present to the   moment, for this is a new beginning.

O God of life, we praise you,

the meaning and the measure of love.

O God of life, you   call us to be present,

here, now.

True to ourselves,   as we stand here before you.

Sensitive to one   another, to move forward as one.

Alert to what is   done here, for we are all witnesses.

O God of life, we praise you,

the meaning and the measure of love.

O God of life, you   call us to be present,

here, now.

Encouraged by   hope, for you have shown faith in us.

Enabled by love,   for you strengthen us through others’ care.

Empowered by joy,   for you are our inspiration and delight.

O God of life, we praise you,

the meaning and the measure of love.

God of light and   life and love,

you meet us,   gladly, in this time and place,

to receive us as your people

and to make us your own.

You meet us in our   hearts and in our midst,

showing us the   meaning of compassion and hope.

Receive us as your people.

Make us your own.

You meet us as we   are

and though we are   reluctant to be seen by you,

you look upon us   only with love.

Receive us as your people.

Make us your own.

1 John 1.5

And so, we pray……

May we walk in   your light.

May your love be   our guide.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

Silence

O God of   transforming grace, we come to you,

carrying our   frailty like a wound that never heals.

Despite our best   intentions, we fail you,

hurting others and   ourselves.

You know the   heights we would climb

and the depths to   which we fall.

Yet you welcome us   with joy

and you look upon   us only with love.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

You see our sin   and hear our excuses,

yet your response   is to help us more

and lift us up so   that once again

we can pledge   ourselves

to that high love   we see in Jesus.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

Enable us now to   make our new beginning,

drawing this   consolation from the faith

you have shown in   us and will continue to show,

for you have   pledged yourself to us forever.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

Show us again how   to set aside fear

and live with   confidence, so that,

filled with your   compassionate Spirit,

we can be   obedient, despite our weakness,

and hopeful,   despite our humanity.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

Silence.

God who is   faithful and just forgives us,

cleansing us from   wrong and giving us strength

so that we may   walk the onward road,

radiant with God’s   glory.

May we walk in your light.

May your love be our guide.

In your Word, we read forgiveness

as you guide our hearts to peace.

2010. Based on prayer written for Carol   Kirchhoff’s wedding.

20.

Caring Creator, we   praise you:

that you call us   to yourself

to live in your   love,

to learn the Way   of Jesus

and to share in   your Spirit of compassion for all.

Saviour Jesus, we   praise you:

that you charge us   to love one another

as you have loved   us;

to be of the same   mind

and to live as   one, as you are one

with the Father   and the Spirit, forever.

Holy Spirit, we   praise you:

for you change us;   turning us toward one another

and turning us,   together, toward you.

Direct our eyes to   your purposes

and guide our   hearts by your dream;

the treasure you   have set aside for us alone.

2010.
